TESTS FOR THE AUSTRALIAN FIRM
26. 12. 2011The Research and Testing Institute (VZÚ) Plzeň Ltd. (the former ŠKODA VÝZKUM) provides its services to rolling stock producers and to its suppliers in the Czech Republic and in abroad too. There are mainly fatigue tests, measurements of vehicles construction strength in service, decrease of noise and vibrations, strength, fatigue and crash calculations, calculations of external aerodynamics and of internal streaming and assessments of life-expectancy of vehicles. The firms as ŠKODA TRANSPORTATION, ŠKODA Vagonka, Faiveley Transport Lekov, Bonatrans, CZ-LOKO and others belong among its regular customers.
As regards foreign firms, the most interesting and regular customer is United Rail Group, one of the biggest producers of rolling stock in Australia for which VZÚ Plzeň provides above all tests of rolling stock bogies. This year, the Australian firm has also used services of VZÚ Plzeň. At the present time, the firm completed statical and fatigue tests of a bogie frame of three- -axle narrow-gauge locomotive which is destined for lines in Southafrican republic. This order meant a culmination of common efforts of the international consorcium composed of representatives from four continents. The firm GE Transportation represented Northern America as a main supplier, Australia was represented by the producer of a bogie frame of three-axle locomotive destined to the customer from Africa. The last continent participating in the project was Europe which is represented in the international development and testing team by Lloyd`s Register from Great Britain and VZÚ Plzeň from the Czech Republic. All orders were solved so far to a full satisfaction of a final customer and supposingly the good cooperation of participated firms will continue also in the future.
