„BOBINS“ DO NOT BELONG TO SCRAPYARDS
12. 12. 2011Locomotives Class E 499.1 (141), produced in the years 1958-1960, after removal of initial defects, became quite reliable engines. Their advantage consists in a combination of a very simple locomotive with a robust construction which helped this class to survive till today when their age overpassed fifty years.
At the present time, their „rebirth“ goes through at the workplace of DPOV, CO. Přerov. The locomotive No. 141.045- 5 v.č. 3862 from 1958 is a prototype of this project. Its total reconstruction was ordered by the Polish customer. Mr. Zdenek Pospíšil, responsible for the project, says: „This locomotive underwent a total repair, cabling VN, NN was exchanged, its bodywork was repaired and it was totally upgraded to be able to comply with today´s regulations required in the field of operation and safety. During this process of modernization, there are interlocking equipments type SHP and Czuwak, radiostation Pyrylandia, Posteor lights and EGC 04 charging system, alternators and collectors type 160EC by Polish producer EC Engenering which were installed on. Control of auxiliary propulsions is ensured by a regulator type ETS. At engine driver´s posts stridency was decreased achieving a level under 75dB. Front windows are heated, safety type AGC. DAKO brakes were adjusted so that the locomotive can satisfy strict Polish regulations.“ At the moment, the locomotive has finished trials in our conditions and after its handing over to STK Wroclaw, Polish customer, will undergo an approval process, type trials and mainly running trials on a Polish test circle near Poznaň. If the vehicle goes through all tests, the other engines Class 141 will be modernized too. Thus, these locomotives, so-called „Bobins,“ even after fifty years of service do not belong to scrapyards.
