Unicontrols has finished work on putting the NEVA TRAIN into service for the St. Petersburg Metro
04. 10. 2011From March to the end of May 2011, the first stage of putting the new generation NeVa trainset into service took place in the Petersburg Metro depot according to the project implemented by Škoda JSC.
The six-car or eight-car versions of the train are to be operated on the subway lines and this is a prospective replacement of the existing rolling stock which is older than 40 years. The cars are manufactured by the local company Vagonmash, which has manufactured three types of cars: 18Mt – front motor car, 19Mt – motor car, and 20Mt – intermediate car. The set of these three types of cars forms one trainset, which has successfully passed basic running tests without passengers. The trainset is equipped with the latest technologies with the focus on reliability of operation and passenger comfort. These include above all an asynchronous traction drive with an electrodynamic brake with the possibility of energy recuperation back to the network, and a controlled direct-acting pneumatic brake. The UniTrack control system delivered by UniControls coordinates functions of all components and peripherals by means of MVB, WTB, Ethernet, CAN bus and RS485. The installed Unicontrols camera system helps to increase passenger safety both in the train and on platforms. The second stage of putting the trainset into service took place in July and August 2011, and was completed by running tests of two three-car trainsets. After this, the entire train was handed over for testing by a state testing laboratory of the Russian Federation.
