ŽBPS: WIRELESS RAILWAY TRANSMISSION NETWORK (WRTN).

The Wireless Railway Transmission Network (WRTN) is a universal communication environment for two-way data communication between mobile and stationary components of telematic applications through generally available wireless data networks. WRTN is provided to customers by ČD - Telematika through a service.

The platform is primarily optimised for the railway transportation environment, but may also be used outside this environmen – it is suitable e.g. also the organisers and operators of public transportation.

"The WRTN platform enables the client to integrate all existing single-purpose solutions that are in operation, which brings a major simplification of the operation of the system as such. Also, there is increased connection safety and implementation of new telematic applications is easier", explains Ing. Vladimír Pech, project manager of ČD - Telematika, the main benefits of the WRTN.

The WRTN platform consists of a communication gate, wireless data networks, communication units and terminals. The Communication gate is the interface between wireless access networks and applications on the stationary part. It provides administration for functions and dynamic behaviour of the system, and communicates using standard TCP/IP protocols.

Wireless data networks include own networks (e.g. WiFi, GSM-R) and networks of public providers (WiFi, GSM, WiMax, CDMA, UMTS, LTE, etc.). The communication unit, also called "mobile terminal" (e.g. PDA), is the interface between mobile LAN on vehicles and wireless networks and ensures connection to stationary systems.
