New generation of ultralight seats
22. 11. 2010NEW GENERATION OF ULTRALIGHT SEATS.
At Czech Raildays 2010 BORCAD presented the prototype of an ultra-light seat unit designed for installation in trains employed on
regional and interregional services. According to the project manager, Petr Vostárek, this is a new seat generation - the successor to the existing SEN model for interregional service trains, mass-produced since 2009. The prototype exhibited is the result of several years of research, crowned officially by the completion of tests in June 2010. The project arose from careful market research and from mapping clients' needs.
Ivan Boruta, the founder and managing director of BORCAD, offers us a summary of the key features of this new generation of seat units. „The SEN series seats were developed with the objective of offering our clients a product which would fulfil the needs of all stakeholders, ranging from manufacturers of the carriages, through operators, to the travelling public. The most important features of our new generation of seats are their low weight and high strength parameters.
The latter aspect contributes markedly to enhanced passive safety of passengers in any collision situation, and at the same time serves as an anti-vandalism element. The shape of the seat and the seat back is ergonomically designed, to be comfortable for all
passengers. During the development phase we paid considerable attention to passenger safety aspects. The seat is therefore at present being subjected to crash tests to further check the characteristics of its frame."
SEN seat units are characterised by a wide range of possible modifications according to the specific requirements of customers, involving not only the mounting dimensions and accessories, but also the possibilities of how to adjust the shape of seat components such as upholstery, headrest and seat shell.
