Modernization of tramways for Heidelberg

The company Krnovske opravny a strojirny s.r.o. Czech Republic (KOS) provides a wide modernization of 8 three- sectional tramcars together with company Cegelec a.s. for Rhein– Neckar – Verkehr GmbH(RNV) Heidelberg.

The key modernization characteristicsare installation of new economic traction equipment of Cegelec, installation of new low floor mid tram section – completely produced in KOS and other modernization steps acc. to the requirement of RNV. Concerning large construction units – extensionof driver´s stand x reduction of first entrance doors, installation of AC atdriver´s stand, information, acoustic and camera system and also change of passenger seats, stopping rods and interior lighting. New low floor mid unit shell wastested successfully (strenght test- staticand dynamic) in rail vehicles test room. After test the shell was returned to KOS for assembling. Company RNV has hired the company Verkehrs Consult Dresden-BerlinGmbH (VCDB) for control of complete modernization process. There are detailed controls of all steps and activities in the frame of modernization (welding, strenghttest, painting, assembly).

First unit should be finished in KOS in September 2010, then it will be shipped to Heidelberg for revitalisation and homogolation.The modernization of the rest 7 units will be finished within 2011.
