ŠKODA ForCity Tram in Riga.

The first three-section ŠKODA ForCity tram was presented in a half of April in Riga - capital of Latvia. On 15 April, representatives of Riga city, Transport Authority for Riga and ŠKODA TRANSPORTATION contractor participated in a solemn demonstration of a new tram.

The city of Riga launched the tender for supply of 20 trams at the end of the year 2007. The ŠKODA TRANSPORTATION company was selected as a winner of the tender and presently starts to deliver supplies fixed by the contract. The delivery of 20 ŠKODA ForCity three-section vehicles is the subject of a contract with the option of 32 trams in the future.

The tram for Riga has small technical dissimilarities as compared with a standardized ŠKODA ForCity tram. Mainly, there are only three traction bogies and air-conditioning in space for passengers. Some used materials and bought parts were changed according to the customer´s request to operate trams in temperatures up to minus 40°C.

Trams should start to be delivered from September 2010. The last tram should be delivered in January 2011. These trams will facilitate the municipal transport in Riga making it pleasant to its inhabitants.
