Czech Raileay Industry at Eurasia Rail, 5.3.-7.3.2015

The Czech Railway Industry returns to the 5th International rolling stock, infrastructure and logistics exhibition Eurasia Rail in Istanbul. Most of the 17 participating Czech companies exhibit in a national pavilion organised under the auspices of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic. The Ministry uses the opportunity provided by Eurasia Rail to support Czech manufacturers in their access to the Turkish market, where the offer of high-quality products and services by Czech companies, and the rapid development of the Turkish railway and public transport infrastructure pose an ideal combination for beneficial synergy. Several successful projects of mutual co-operation between the Czech and the Turkish party, such as the deliveries of SKODA trams in Konya, signalling system for metro in Istanbul by AZD PRAHA, locos for rescue service in Marmaray Tunnel by CZ LOKO or wheelsets by GHH Bonatrans Group have already taken place. With the aim to extend the existing cooperation, following Czech companies are introduced at this year’s exhibition: ACRI - Association of Czech Railway Industry, Alfa Union, AMIT, AV Engineering, AZD Praha, GHH - Bonatrans Group, CZ LOKO, DAKO CZ, Elmesy, Legios, MSV Elektronika, Prvni Signalni, Skoda Transportation, UniControls, VUKV, VUZ and VZU Plzen.

Istanbul, 5 March 2015: The members of ACRI currently employ more than 20.000 people in the Czech Republic and their annual turnover is more than EUR 3 billion, of which exports account for more than 54%. ACRI is the unique Centre of Technical Standardization acting in the railway sector, involved in European technical standards transfer to the Czech national standards system. ACRI is representing the joint interests of the railway supply industry towards the Czech Institutions, rail operators, rail infrastructure managers and via its membership in UNIFE (European Railway Industry) also towards the EU institutions The present successful development of the railway transport was enabled thanks to more than 180 years of traditional development of the Czech railway industry. The former Ringhoffer wagon plant in Prague, wagon plant at Kopřivnice, the 1st Czech-Moravian machine works in Prague – later ČKD or Škoda plants in Pilsen together with a wide range of other producers had always been at the top of their professions”, says Marie Vopalenska, ACRI General Director. The quality of Czech railway products can be shown through a large export to all over the world. This long-standing tradition is successfully linked up with the present representatives of the Czech railway industry, who invest significantly into the development of new and innovative products.

Czech Railway Industry is the strong partner for Turkey

AZD Praha co-operates in Turkey on the metro modernization in Istanbul with the delivery of signaling systems, helps with an upgrade of railway crossing safety devices on Sőke-Ortaklar track or with Tekirdag-Muratli project with supply of the station safety devices such as ESA 44 system remote control DOZ-1 or line signaling device type ABE-1 including telecommunication system. AZD Praha also co-operates with other companies on the construction of railway track Irmak-Zonguldak supplying 500 elements for more than 260 railway crossings, and supplies control and information traffic system for Izmir.

GHH - BONATRANS GROUP is the biggest European supplier of railway wheelsets and their parts – wheels, axles, tyres, with long tradition of supplying its products to Turkey. Most of the new rolling stock supplied to Turkish railways (TCDD) and to Turkish cities in the last decade, is equipped with BONATRANS state-of-the-art wheelsets and their parts, BONATRANS wheelsets are carrying new EMU and DMU units for TCDD built by Hyundai Rotem and TÜVASAŞ, including EMU units for the most prestigious Maramaray project. New metro units in Istanbul (manufactured by Hyundai Rotem) and Ankara (produced by CSR Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Works in China) are also equipped by BONATRANS wheelsets. Istanbul Ulasim, city transport agency, is running trams with BONATRANS resilient wheels that substantially reduce running noise of trams in densely populated areas. BONATRANS wheelsets are also used in new locomotives that haul TCDD trains – new electric locomotive E68000 built by Hyundai Rotem/Skoda Transportation, as well as in the modern diesel locomotive Powerhaul build by General Electric in cooperation with TÜLOMSAŞ.

Few brands have brought as much global fame to the Czech Republic as SKODA from Pilsen. For over 150 years, people have recognised the products from this traditional factory. Today its successor, SKODA TRANSPORTATION, is focused on the modern vehicles for public transportation in cities and rail transit systems. The key company´s products include low-floor trams or subway trainsets for an eco-friendly public transport in many European cities. Recently, SKODA TRANSPORTATION supplies trams for Konya in Turkey or for Miskolc in Hungary.

VÚKV - Research institute of railway vehicles – has cooperated with the Turkish companies for more than 6 years. Apart from complete type tests of the freight wagon for Railtur company, VUKV also supports the development of a new rolling stock. It is not only the design work and technical calculations, but also expert consulting and testing of dedicated components. Recent activities include supporting the development of trams for Istanbul and Kayseri, fatigue tests of a bogie frames or test of the freight wagon Rgns. This wagon was shown this year on Euroasia Rail exhibition in Istanbul. VÚKV make also supports for tests carried out by Turkrail directly in Turkey.

VUZ (Railway Research Institute) offers expert services and comprehensive solutions in the field of assessment, testing activities and consulting for railway system and rail transport. VUZ´s Testing laboratory carried out the measurement of the traction and electro-dynamic regenerative braking characteristics of the latest TCDD class E6800 AC electric locomotives together with a heating test. Dynamic test Bench of VUZ carried out test of 4 different tram bogies for Turkish company Durmazlar, also provided tests of freight bogie for RAILTUR and special tests of screw coupling for HST Otomotiv. VZU PLZEN offers development and accredited testing, with dynamic laboratory tests, computer simulations of vehicles, calculations of fluid and thermodynamics, measurement and analysis of the operational loading, calculation, measurement and analysis of internal and external noise, measurement and vibration analysis of vehicles and their constructional parts and material testing.

In recent years Czech - Turkish economic relations experienced strong momentum. Due to the stable volume of exchange trade Turkey is today one of the most important trading partner for the Czech Republic. The bilateral trade has a long-term growing trend, and since the beginning of the millennium it has experienced more than a twelvefold increase and in 2014, the Czech Republic and Turkey conducted more than 3,46 billion USD in bilateral trade – the most ever between our two countries, which on yearly bases represents 3,1% increase. Czech exports to Turkey reached 2,15 billion USD while Turkish exports to the Czech Republic increased from 1,14 billion USD in 2013 to 1,31 billion USD in 2014. Based on the existing relations and long-term contracts (not only in the field of railway industry but also in the energy sector, automotive industry, mining sector, chemical industry, defence industry and environmental technologies) it is expected that the bilateral trade will stay stable in the future.
